Below you will find short biographical sketches for 4 of the persons who have submitted their names in nomination for membership on the Executive Committee of the GVPCCC. Hopefully, these will prove beneficial as you prepare for the elections on July 17.
Debbie Russell has been in a leadership role with the Hampton Healthy Families Partnership since it began in 1991. She has 27 years of experience in building community partnerships, and resource and program development. She serves on : VA’s Child Abuse Prevention Committee; Downtown Hpt Child Development Center Board; CarePlex-Patient and Family Advisory Council; Hpt-Community Policy and Management Team; Child Advocacy Resource Education task force; Hpt Schools-Preschool Initiative Council; and Hpt Juvenile Judges’-Best Practices Committee.
Julie Dixon is currently working as Programs Administrator at The Planning Council in Norfolk, Virginia. She supervises regional homeless projects, including the Homeless Prevention Program and HMIS, and conducts other health and human service planning. Before working at The Planning Council, she was Regional Director of AIDS Foundation East-West in Moscow, Russia and managed various health programs in other international health and development organizations. She has a Masters of Public Health from The George Washington University and Bachelors of Arts in International Relations and Russian Studies.
Brenda Garrett has worked on the Peninsula with children and families for 20 years. Her experience includes work as a foster care social worker, child and adolescent case manager, and the developer/manager of the VisionPoint work readiness program. After receiving her M.Ed. in Special Education, she taught for 2 years at a day treatment school for children with emotional disabilities. She is now Executive Director of the Kiwanis Children’s Council of Hampton Roads and manages the KidsPriorityOne program, an information and referral service/website for children and families.
Karen Kurilko is Regional Director of the Hampton Roads office of Refugee and
Immigration Services (RIS), a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Prior to joining RIS Karen was Director of Social Ministry for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newport News. Karen also worked for the Newport News Department of Social Services for one year as the Community Resource Coordinator. She has an MBA from Strayer University and a bachelor’s degree from Bluefield College.
We will be voting for four
(4) people to serve on the executive committee. The executive
committee will then determine who will serve as an officer in the following
positions: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
Voting requirements:
1.
One vote per agency
2.
Only agencies who have up to date dues for 06-07 can vote.
3.
Absentee votes are accepted if sent to ewilliams@kidsandfamlies.com
before July 17th.
