The City of Hampton is hosting a series of meetings to gain citizen input regarding the budget and asking your help in promoting these events. This week is Budget Week. There are four more sessions this week which offer citizens the opportunity to provide their input. The City is striving to get a broad audience at these events. The more people that participate, the better the results will be in terms of reflecting a larger community sentiment. So, please consider being a part of making this happen. A flyer you may use is attached to this email. Additional information can be accessed from the City’s internet site or via the following link:
http://www.hampton.gov/press_release/2010_budget_week.html
This link takes you to the press release we did on the Budget Week events. As part of that page, to the right of the release, you will see the sample flyer. Please feel free to circulate this flyer to colleagues, customers, neighbors and/or other residents you may know.
At each event citizens will have an opportunity to rated over 50 Hampton services. Each service will be rated on the following:
· Is the service a need or a want?
· Given the difficult budget, should the service funding level be increased, maintained, reduced or eliminated? (Residents are cautioned that additional funding in the short-term may not be feasible and causes the need for deeper cuts in other services)
· What is the relative importance of this service to others?
The Budget Week schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, February 23
7:00pm, Jones Magnet Middle School
1819 Nickerson Boulevard
Thursday, February 25
6:30pm, Aberdeen Elementary School

Menchville House Benefit Concert Series
On Sunday, March 14 the Peninsula Concert Band will perform at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church,
on Hiden Blvd to benefit Menchville House. I'm excited because we've never had an all
instrumental concert before! Did you know the band is 60 years old this year? I had
never heard them until I went to an outdoor concert at 2nd Presbyterian last year and I
was amazed they'd been around so long. They are EXCELLENT, VERY PROFESSIONAL,
and they play just wonderful full band music. Won't you come out on an almost-Spring Sunday afternoon to hear them and support Menchville House? I know you will enjoy the concert. These volunteers love to play, practice every single week and are graciously giving their talent for us, and I am so appreciative! I hope to see you there.
The other thing you can do to help is to send this on to everyone you

The Hampton History Museum is hosting two special exhibits to honor the
400th Anniversary
of Hampton. The first of these will be on display from March 1 through
August 15.
"South King: Hampton's Waterfront Through the Ages," features the
waterfront of
Hampton along South King Street as it has changed over the past 400
years. Many
drawings and photographs portray the different moods and looks of this
area, while
artifacts from archaeological excavations and from the still-existing
ship chandlery
and seafood businesses there will provide multiple foci of information
and stories
about the oldest continuous English settlement in North America.
A second special exhibit, honoring Hampton's premiere photographers, C.
Ethelbert
and W. E. "Happy" Cheyne, will open on September 15, 2010 and run
through March
17, 2011.
The Hampton History Museum is located at 120 Old Hampton Lane, Hampton.
Admission
fee, memberships are available at the door. For further information,
